Housed within a beautiful historic townhouse, it offers an outstanding collection of art, furniture, armour, porcelain and decorative arts in surroundings that are every bit as impressive as the exhibits themselves.\nWhat struck me most was the quality and variety of the collection. One moment you\u2019re admiring masterpieces by world-renowned artists, the next you\u2019re standing in front of an extraordinary display of historic arms and armour. The armour galleries in particular are fascinating and among the finest I have seen anywhere in the UK. During my visit, the museum was also hosting a temporary exhibition of Winston Churchill\u2019s paintings, which added an interesting extra dimension to the experience.\nUnlike many of London\u2019s larger museums, the Wallace Collection feels calm and intimate. The layout is easy to follow, the galleries are spacious, and there is none of the rushing or overcrowding that can sometimes detract from the experience elsewhere. It allows you to slow down and properly appreciate both the collection and the magnificent building that houses it.\nThe interiors themselves are stunning, with lavish decoration and elegant rooms that make you feel as though you\u2019ve stepped back into another age. There is also a pleasant caf\u00e9 situated in the covered courtyard, providing a perfect place to relax during your visit.\nOverall, the Wallace Collection is an exceptional museum that deserves far more attention than it receives. Whether you\u2019re interested in art, military history, architecture or simply beautiful places, it offers something for everyone. I really like the setting, hidden away in Manchester Square and inside what used to be Hertford House, so it feels quite different from a lot of the bigger museums in the city. I went recently for Winston Churchill: The Painter and really enjoyed it, especially seeing his paintings together and getting to see a different side of him. The space itself is beautiful and I also really like the courtyard caf\u00e9, which has a lovely glass roof and is a nice place to stop afterwards. The staff have always been friendly and helpful whenever I\u2019ve been. The permanent collection is free to visit too, which makes it an easy place to come back to or just pop into when you\u2019re nearby.
