Fine for movies and the occasional art exhibit (but check the hours first and don't go out of your way, the gallery is tiny). Anything where you don't have to actually interact with the folks working here, you'll be ok. It's as if they recently hired a bunch of snarky rude people. They need to be sent away to an Omotenashi bootcamp or something.\n\nThe dude always wearing the black face mask at the 'welcome' desk just stands there and scowls at people, no hello, nothing. Multiple visits he's always like that. I went up to buy a soda and he just stared at me like I was crazy, so I put it down and walked away. I asked a woman about tea samples at an underwhelming, chaotic matcha event. She responded \"I'm just a volunteer I know nothing. I'm literally here for free, so you should stop asking me things.\" I asked another girl if they were scanning tickets yet. She says \"Gee, I don't know, what do you think?\" Again, so nasty for no reason. No one knew a thing about the $300 membership tier either. This was right after the president was on stage telling audience members to join.\n\nAlso what's with their photographers randomly jumping out at people? I find it annoying and kinda creepy. Overall, Japan Society seems to care more about looking good for social media posts and boasting about their SOLD OUT events than making said events more enjoyable in person.  Three stars for decent experiences prior to 2026, and for the awesome toilets.
