The exhibitions are always thoughtfully curated and consistently impressive.

We were there in the final days of the David Hockney exhibition and had to wait about 30 minutes outside to get in. It wasn’t the most pleasant experience, but it clearly showed how incredible the demand for the exhibition was.

I especially love the museum shop, it’s full of unique and interesting pieces. I ended up buying a bag and some pencils, which made the visit even more memorable.

If there’s a popular exhibition on, it’s best to book tickets in advance. The museum is also easy to reach and it’s very convenient to take a taxi right from the entrance on the way back.

Overall, a fantastic experience and definitely worth visiting every time you’re in Paris.
I wanted to rate this museum higher, but there were too many little but meaningful things that could have made it a much better experience.

The good: The Calder exhibit was stunning, and the accompanying musical performance that we attended was also very well done. The building itself is very interesting to explore and learn about the architecture. The price was very reasonable.

The bad: We had a lot of little confusing moments that would have easily been avoided with additional information on the website and better signage at museum.

The museum has pretty good directions on the website about how to access their shuttle bus from the metro, but no mention of any cost to use the shuttle. Once we got on the bus, we were told we had to pay. The driver told us the payment machine wasn't working, and I think he told us that we needed to pay for the shuttle once we got to the museum, but I wasn't sure. It was very confusing.

The outside of the museum has no place to stand or sit, no shade, and no place to buy water or use the toilet. It was over 90 F the day we visited, and people were clearly not happy about this. So we headed into the museum a bit early just to get out of the hot sun.

We bought tickets for the Calder exhibit plus a timed performance online. We were not sure whether we could enter the museum before that time to see the exhibit or whether we could only see the exhibit after the performance. It turns out it is indeed the former.

Going through security, it was not clear the we had to take out our wallets and phones and keys before going through. There were no signs and someone had to tell us.

Once inside the museum, we headed to the lobby cafe to get some drinks before heading into the performance, and the hostess informed us that the lobby cafe was only for lunch and not for drinks, and that there was another cafe on the second floor. We had a hard time figuring out where to go because there are no maps in the lobby and no signs pointing to the second floor cafe. We did find it up the escalators, and it turns out it's just a walk up window in the outdoor terrace. It was fine and we did get some drinks. The payment machine at the terrace cafe was finicky but I finally was able to pay. (Others were having similar issues.)

We had our drinks and were walking along the terrace and were very careful not to pass any signs that said "no food or drinks beyond this point." But when we went up stairs to another part of the terrace, an employee called from above that we couldn't go up there with our drinks, despite no sign saying otherwise.

We headed back down to go to the performance, for which the tickets said that the theater would be open 30 minutes before. It was not. It was 15 minutes, and many people tried to access it but were told to please wait and come back.

As mentioned earlier, the performance itself was excellent, as was the exhibit. The whole experience however just left a bad taste in my mouth because of all the little things that made it unnecessarily confusing or difficult. I really think they need to have someone go through the website with a fresh set of eyes and include all the relevant info first time visitors need. I also think someone needs to add some additional wayfinding and maps on the walls in the lobby to help people get their bearings, and to let people know there's an outdoor cafe on the 2nd floor!

One other suggestion: I also noticed there was a food truck in the courtyard where the outdoor Calder sculptures were. But that is inside security. I think the food truck would be really nice outside the museum to the side of the main entrance, along with some tables and chairs with umbrellas. That way it could be used by anyone and would provide some amenties to people who have not yet gone into the museum.

Also, just include the shuttle in the admission price. People can show their ticket when they get on the shuttle. For folks that don't yet have a ticket, sure charge them 1 Euro or something when they board. But make it obvious on the website!
