Walking through the Impressionist collection at night felt unforgettable.

Also loved stopping by the giant clock and looking out over Paris — one of those moments that makes you slow down and just enjoy being there.

If you have the chance to visit during museum night, I’d highly recommend it.
I had heard great things about Musée d’Orsay, especially that it was manageable and not overwhelming, so I decided it would be my museum stop while I was in Paris. That turned out to be the right call.

The museum is large, but it’s organized in a way that makes sense. I picked a side and worked my way through section by section. It took me about two and a half hours to see almost everything without lingering too long in any one space. If you’re by yourself and moving steadily, that’s enough time to cover most of it. If you want to sit with pieces for a while, give yourself more time.

I didn’t even realize my favorite painting was housed here, so discovering it near the end of my visit was a genuinely great surprise. I also had no idea The Thinker was here. There were several moments like that, turning a corner and finding something iconic I hadn’t expected.

The range is impressive. Sculpture, painting, decorative arts, furniture, glasswork, large-scale architectural elements. It never felt chaotic, and the flow felt intuitive.

What stayed with me most was the reminder that art outlives the artist. Someone puts brush to canvas or mallet to stone, and that mark can carry forward for generations. Craft, effort, vision, and something real to say can endure far beyond a lifetime. There’s something powerful about that. It’s a different kind of legacy than noise or spectacle. It’s built on mastery and substance.

The entry process was smooth. The line wasn’t bad, and once inside, you can move at your own pace.

If you’re choosing one museum in Paris and want something expansive but still digestible, this is a strong option. I left genuinely inspired and very glad this was the one I chose.
