The staff are young, energetic, and exceptionally well trained\u2014and it shows. Every interaction carried that rare \u201cI truly love my job\u201d energy that can\u2019t be faked and makes a stay memorable.\n\nThe rooms are spectacular\u2014thoughtfully designed, beautifully finished, and a pleasure to come back to at the end of the day. I also appreciated the sense of security: the building locks overnight, yet there\u2019s always an attentive staff member on duty, which adds both comfort and peace of mind.\n\nThis stay set a very high bar for the year ahead, and it\u2019s going to be hard to beat. The good: the rooms are so lovely you don\u2019t even notice that your view is a wall. The soaps smell incredible. It\u2019s in the very best location.\n\nThe bad: this is a luxury hotel and i booked this as a birthday present for myself. The fact that they have a resort fee of $50 felt a little chintzy for a hotel this nice but they gave me a poker chip to redeem for $40 of breakfast items in the morning and I was as really looking forward to it:\n\nI woke up  and went down to find it completely cleared out. Not a crumb. When I asked if they could do anything since I had a credit I couldn\u2019t use the woman behind the counter literally laughed at me and said \u201cno you can just buy a few juices if you need it\u201d.\n\nThe explanation was that it was busy\u2014 but surely guests book rooms and you can plan accordingly and order more pastries??\n\nI know this is a luxury hotel. I know I\u2019m not white, and maybe not as lavish as their regular guests. But $40 for nothing but to be laughed at soured my birthday so much I was almost in tears. Not because of missing the breakfast, but because of being made to feel like I was stupid for wanting what I paid for. Instead of feeling like I was treating myself to a luxury I felt looked down on and ripped off.
