There isn\u2019t much to do, see, or even eat on the property, which made the stay feel a bit limited.\n\nThe spa was alright, but not amazing \u2014 again, not quite what you\u2019d expect from a hotel of this caliber.\n\nThere were also several disappointments. The room service food was genuinely awful, which is surprising for a hotel of this level. The lobby seating area only serves tea or the same limited room service menu, so there aren\u2019t many casual dining options within the property.\n\nThe boulangerie is lovely in concept, but by the afternoon it\u2019s completely sold out, making it difficult to actually enjoy unless you go very early. The only other dining option is a very formal French restaurant, which doesn\u2019t always suit every mood or time of day.\n\nBreakfast was also below average, which was unexpected given the brand\u2019s reputation.\n\nOverall, I was expecting much more from a brand like Capella, often considered one of the leading \u2014 if not the best \u2014 luxury hotel brands in Asia. While the design and ambiance are beautiful, the overall experience didn\u2019t match the level of excellence I was anticipating.","author":"Alia","rating":3,"time_description":"4 months ago"},{"text":"I'd give this hotel 6 stars if possible and if you're visiting Shanghai, you need to stay here. It's a bit further from the more tourism-focused side of Shanghai but this area is wonderful to be in and easily connected to places like Xintiandi, Jingan temple, Huaihai road, etc. via Didi.\n\nThe real reason to stay here is because this hotel is a love letter to Shanghai. The old Shikumen style hotel rooms, the Shanghainese style breakfasts, the old newspapers from historic Shanghai, etc.. So many of the little touches were beautiful, like the comic books included in the entertainment room which I'll be adding to my family's collection :) Nowhere else in the world will have hotel rooms in this style in a city so wonderful.\n\nThe service was also fantastic. We had some additional requests that were addressed by staff and there were many little surprises that we greatly appreciated. The hotel also had a lot of activities and experiences (the Capella \"rituals\") that were enjoyable and added to the overall enjoyment of the hotel. The culturists\/concierge were also very helpful with arranging our plans and giving useful, but not pushy suggestions.\n\nAll in all, this truly is a special stay.
