Unknown City
The fair is particularly strong in German-speaking and European modern art — from Expressionism and Bauhaus to post-war and Fluxus movements — alongside vibrant presentations of current international galleries. Art Cologne's historical section, featuring works from the early 20th century onwards, is one of the finest of any fair.
Cologne in April is welcoming and energetic. The fair sits within a rich cultural landscape: the city is home to the Museum Ludwig — one of the great Pop Art and Picasso collections in the world — the Wallraf-Richartz Museum, and the extraordinary Romano-Germanic Museum.
City Guides
Cologne rewards extended exploration. The Cologne Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, dominates the skyline. The Museum Ludwig's collection spans Picasso to Warhol to current practice. The Chocolate Museum, the Roman foundations beneath the cathedral, and the Rhine promenade all make for an exceptionally rich city visit.
