Manifesta

Manifesta is Europe's roving international biennial of contemporary art, reinventing itself in a new European city every two years. Founded in 1996 as a response to the post-Cold War redrawing of Europe's borders, it commissions site-specific works that engage profoundly with the history, politics, and urban fabric of its host city.

Unknown City

Unlike fixed biennials, Manifesta's nomadic character means each edition is a genuinely unique encounter: artists are given the city itself as their medium, transforming factories, parks, palaces, and public squares into spaces of cultural reflection. Past host cities include St. Petersburg, Murcia, Zurich, Genk, Marseille, and Palermo.

Manifesta attracts an internationally engaged audience of curators, artists, and collectors who follow it from city to city — making it one of the most adventurous and intellectually demanding events in the contemporary art world.

City Guides

Each Manifesta edition offers a rare opportunity to explore a European city through the lens of contemporary art commissioning. The biennial's site-specific approach often uncovers hidden layers of a city's history and urban life, making it one of the most genuinely transformative cultural tourism experiences available.
