Taipei Biennial

The Taipei Biennial, held at the Taipei Fine Arts Museum since 1996, is one of Asia's most important contemporary art biennials. Each edition commissions an internationally prominent curator to develop a thematic programme that brings together artists from Taiwan and across the globe, positioning the island as a vital node in the international art world.

Unknown City

Taiwan's unique geopolitical position — at the crossroads of East Asian traditions, the legacy of colonial modernity, and a vibrant democratic civil society — gives the Taipei Biennial an inherently charged conceptual context. It consistently produces some of the most intellectually stimulating exhibitions in the Asian contemporary art landscape.

Taipei in autumn and winter is ideal for a cultural visit — mild temperatures, excellent food, and the city's extraordinary blend of temples, night markets, and cutting-edge contemporary culture. The Biennial's long run (October to March) allows visitors to combine it with New Year celebrations in December.

City Guides

Taipei is a city of endlessly surprising depth. The National Palace Museum houses one of the world's greatest collections of Chinese art. The Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei (MOCA), the Songshan Cultural and Creative Park, and a thriving independent gallery scene complete the picture. The city's legendary night markets, hot spring resorts, and the mountainous Yangmingshan National Park are all within easy reach.
