The event.
Art Paris is France's leading art fair for modern and contemporary art, held each spring at the Grand Palais in the heart of Paris. Founded in 1999, the fair has established a distinctive identity by combining major international names with a genuine commitment to under-represented geographies—presenting galleries and artists from the Global South, Eastern Europe, Southeast Asia, and beyond—alongside a strong focus on French and Francophone art scenes. It is an event that rewards curiosity as much as connoisseurship.
How to navigate.
Each edition brings together some 150 galleries from around the world, with a big focus on European dealers, across the magnificent nave of the Grand Palais, organised around a series of thematic sectors: the main gallery programme sits alongside Solo Shows spotlighting individual artists, Promises dedicated to emerging talent, and Discovery highlighting galleries less than ten years old. The fair typically features a guest country or region, deepening engagement with a specific art scene through special exhibitions, talks, and curatorial initiatives that run in parallel with the gallery programme.
Before you go.
For ArtAtlas travelers, Art Paris occupies one of the world's most spectacular fair venues, and the experience of encountering contemporary art under the Grand Palais's iron-and-glass vault is in itself remarkable. The fair's commitment to geographical breadth makes it a genuinely exciting place to discover work and galleries that would not appear at the more commercially predictable major fairs. Paris in spring is at its best, and the fair's central location makes it easy to combine with museum visits, gallery rounds in the Marais and Saint-Germain, and the broader pleasures of the city.
The city guide.
The 8th arrondissement around the Grand Palais offers excellent options for fair visitors. Le Clarence on Avenue Franklin D. Roosevelt, a two-starred address, is the area's finest table. For a more accessible lunch, we suggest Primitives which offers reliable and light meals. The terrace of L'Avenue on avenue Montaigne is a long-standing fair institution. For evening dining in a relaxed setting, the bistros of the nearby Rue du Bac or Odéon on the Left Bank are highly recommended.
